Hi, I just receive my MCAT score, and I got 18P, which I never got on my diagnostic tests. I usually get around a 22 and sometimes 25. Nevertheless, I was wondering if I should still continue with my secondaries for DO school? I have a 3.55 GPA, 3 years of clincial experience, 1.5 years of research, about 50 hours of DO shadowing, tutoring, and some more extracurricular activities. Do you think I still have a shot at one of the DO school? Please help me out, I'm really confused right now.

In all honesty, probably not. Stranger things have happened, and no one can say that you 100% have no chance, but it is not likely. Your gpa and other extracurriculars sound solid, but an MCAT retake will probably be necessary. By all means, apply and give it a shot, but IMHO I feel that you will be wasting money on the applications. I'm really not trying to be a jerk here, but if you were able to get near a 25 on practice tests it will probably be worth your while to save the money from the applications and put it towards next Aprils MCAT. Besides your score this time, the fact that its relatively late in the application cycle (which it always is for the August MCAT takers), makes getting in with a low score even more difficult. Best of luck to you.

This advice is right on. An 18 is pretty low - applying with that now would almost assuredly mean rejections everywhere, due to the period in which you would be applying (as stated above).

Take a study course again and work hard at improving your score. Keep up the ECs, clinical experience, and research if you can. It will keep the other aspects of your application strong. Good luck!

No. Retake the MCAT.

Agreed w/ all the above...You can still fill out secondaries but it will most likely be a waste of money...I would advise chilling out and keeping the grades up until 2006, then studying hardcore for the MCAT in April and applying next cycle.

Of course you never know...If you have the money I guess to apply all over somethign MIGHT happen since everything else on yoru application is great, I can't really say though.

I would change and step up your MCAT prep next time too, because I'm sure you're capable of more than what your diags were showing. The good news is that if you apply again next time you will have had so much time to prepare, and prepare well and right that you'll probably score high enough to have so many more options next time around whereas even if you did get into one school this time it might be one you didn't really like or that wasn't really that great a fit for you.

If you are deadset on going to school next fall, look into the carib route as well would be the only other thing i can think of.
