Hi,

I've bought two different surgical packs online both claiming to be "German". However, I've returned them as they were relatively poor quality. Anyone have a suggestion on where to buy surgical instruments (or know any inexpensive but good mid-grade brands) without spending an absolute fortune? I'm trying to find the right balance between quality and price. I don't need the $1300 Miltex spay pack, and I know I'm spending more than the $45 economy one. Just trying to find the reasonable mid-ground.
Any resources would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
J

I tend to use these guys - http://www.universalsurgical.com/

They offer unbranded surgical instruments in different levels of quality. Our boarded surgeon actually purchased most of her instruments from these folks.

It is kind of a family business so when they are out at a conference there may be a delay in returning calls.

We purchase German instruments at work from here:

They seem to be prompt and reputable. We've been ordering from them for at least 10 years.

I picked up a Miltex spay pack for ~$500 from Welch Allyn's veterinary student site via Butler Animal Health. I actually kinda stumbled onto it. You have to register and it takes them a dayish to get you a password, but then you have access to awesome prices.

I'd have to second the recommendation for spectrum instruments. Very good stuff.

Butler's instruments are made by Miltex but without the name brand. They are good, high quality instruments.

Why is the German stuff considered to be so superior? Better quality goods (stainless steel vs some other material?) or better function or what?
