I'm looking for suggestions on getting a roommate for medical school. What are your experiences? Do you even recommend living with someone else? If so, would you rather live with another med student or not---since you will see this person every day anyway? Or might you suggest living with another graduate/professional student? Also, does anyone have any horror storries?

I have lived with other medical students for all 4 years of school. It may not be the best idea to live with strangers but medical students have an appreciation of pre-test nights and won't keep you up til 2 am when you have to study.

Living with members of your class may be somewhat stressful and may turn competitive if EITHER one of you is at all like that. What I would recommend is to either send out or look for an email to classes above or below you about roomates.

I wouldn't recommend living with other grad students as law or PhD students live MUCH different lifestyles then med students.

Deuist...

are you going to be matriculating at FSU? Because if you are, there's always the scholarship house. Supposedly it is really cheap, like 800 per semester (that number I am not sure about though)

well its kind of risky but I found my roommates on roommateclick.com. You can read people's profiles and then get in touch with them if you are interested. My situation turned out really well and my roommates are great friends. One girl is in the class above mine which is really nice because I have ready advice whenever I have questions and the other is working in research but trying to get into med school.

I recommend living by yourself. Med student schedules are so random, you'll want peace and quiet whenever you need to study or sleep whether it is day or night.

I'd live on campus either alone or with another med student.

I prefer the living alone route, but if that is financially not reasonable for you then definately go with a fellow med student as a roomate. One person in my class that I know lived with a "normal" person and they were always having people over and it was hard to study there (they really don't understand the schedule as noted above). At least with a fellow student you have someone to bounce questions off of and they are understanding of your schedule.

Most schools have some sort of housing office, some even have books of people looking for housing/roomates, I'd try looking into that.
