Hello All!

This is my first post here on this forum, I usually never join forums, but this one seemed to be one that I could gain a lot out of. I have been following here and there and just had to finally ask myself.

I had a rough undergrad path causing my GPA to not be as strong as it should be for dental school. I know that applying to dental school would not be an option at his point (my GPA was 2.7/2.8). However, my question is whether I should go for a Post Bacc in dental hygiene or should I try to get into a masters program in biotechnology/biomedical sciences etc. My GRE scores are relatively high so that would be my only saving grace to get into a graduate program along with my LOR's and personal statement.

I have completed some applications early this year and I have gotten into a Post Bacc to MCPHS for dental hygiene in which I would be able to get certified in at the end as a hygienist. I feel this is a wonderful program and it would be a great option for dental school, but at the end of the day, a masters is a masters. I was wondering if dental schools have a preference in what they prefer to see and if I am going in the right path.

Would you suggest me to accept admission into the post bacc or should I continue to apply to masters programs and later make a decision? And if I would have the choice would you suggest post bacc or masters?

P.S any sort of advising would be great, I am nearly deserpate for help and opinions!

Thank you and
Regards

I would not do dental hygiene. I would do a post bacc or masters program. take the GRE again if you have to.

How many hours did you take for 2.7-2.8 GPA? In order to boost up your mark, you may need to take a lot more courses during post bacc or masters. Try to find course-based, non-thesis master program that gives you access to more courses if you are going for masters.

It was a little over 130 hours. There were a lot of circumstances that factored into that number, which I am not proud of. I was considering oral health/oral biology degrees for a masters as well, but I suppose I lack some confidence because I'm so embarrassed of my GPA. I don't even know if I have a chance in getting into a masters program so I felt this might be a good alternative where I can kick butt and boost my grades etc
