suit questions

Seems a little 90's to me. I wouldn't wear that, but that doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't.

I apologize for hijacking.

Would wearing a lavender tie to an interview be an act of arrogance?

I am asking this because dental graduates wear lavender on their graduation gown. The lavender tie that I have is very similar to this color.

I do not want to send off a wrong message or display an arrogant connotation during the interview. The tie just matches my shirt perfectly.

Maybe I'm just over thinking this...

That's deep. I doubt the adcoms would look that far into it.

brass buttons on a navy jacket with navy pants?

Outdated, absolutely not. If thats the only suit you have, then have a tailor swap out the buttons to standard black or blue

Hm I would stick to a neutral color...you never know if you'll get a conservative interviewer.

First off, navy jackets with brass buttons are generally sport coats, and not complete suits. So i would assume your jacket and pants would not match perfectly.

This is the time in your life where you should buy a new suit... you can find a decent one for under $200 if you look around. If you don't have the cash, hit up mom and dad, or use a credit card, but you want a new suit.

Suit - Stick with black, grey or navy. No heavy pinstripes. Pay extra for getting it tailored, you want it to fit you.
Tie - Color will not matter, but make sure the pattern is not too flamboyant. Can't go wrong with solids and stripes.
Shirt - I personally don't think that a colored shirt will matter, just make it soft, no bright reds, oranges etc. White is always respectable.
Shoes/Belt - Make sure they match... Also, no brown shoes with black or grey suits, only with navy.

At the end of it all, make sure a girl looks at you, to make sure your suit/shirt/tie combo matches and you look decent.

Adcom from UT Houston told me to wear a bright colored shirt underneath the suit, not traditional black/white shirt. Reason behind it is that it would help the adcom/interviewer to focus on you more when they are interviewing you. Makes sense that people wander their eyes around in the room and the first thing they would notice is the bright color.

I never would have thought. I feel like I'm headed to prom with a bright colored shirt underneath a suit.

The opinion of one ADCOM, does not make it a general rule. However, conservative colors have always been a safe choice.
