I've looked at J.Crew and Banana Republic but they seem overpriced. Any other suggestions?

I'm your typical thin/skinny-5'10''ish sub-par overachiever.

JC Penny and Mens Warehouse and pretty descent sales at times... It really depends on your budget.

👍👍
Second on those two. Both have very respectable suits, and some very good prices provided you can find the right one. And remember, be slightly unorthodox when picking your suit. Don't look like you just left a funeral. Be respectfully colorful.

cool. thanks for the tip.

do these places have suits for skinnier guys? or will i have to go to the tailor?

If you got 300$

I would hit up ZARA/Express... they are in every mall. Very fashionable. Other than those 2 stores dont buy suit anywhere else. especially if you are 5.10 and skiny

The suit will fit nicely and it looks like custom fit suits. Easy to find. looks very cut.

I brought my first suit there and I love it...

JC penny and mens wear house SUCk... they dont give the bang for your buck...

STICK TO ZARA's OR EXPRESS dont go anywhere else.

I'm pretty sure they have your size. They have a sales associate who will be very helpful in making sure your suit is nice, that your shirt and tie complement your slacks and jacket, that your shoulders aren't mutated, that your sleeves aren't too long. So, no, you won't need it tailored. Just get it close enough. Take a few friends, maybe galpals who will be honest with you. Remember, you aren't going to the dental interview to be showcasing your merits as a fashion model. Look nice. Just know that you don't have to look like you stole your wardrobe from the Jonas Brothers.

Too bad there aren't too many Zara's around.

 They are actually pretty good dressers. How do I know? :scared: Good guess...What! I have a 9 year old sister. I am forced to watch the show. Honest.

As long as you don't go to your interview like the Bishop Don Magic Juan, you should be fine.

haha, had to look that one up. we should start a "who you shouldn't look like for your interviews" thread 😉.

zaras cool but their suite are for going out. and they all fit real skinny. i got mine at macys for good price. check it out when they have big sales

Depends on what your price range is:

Express/Zara - These will give you the best look for your $, as the are more modern/fitted.

Macy's - you could probably get a more business type suit here

Nordstrom - If you feel like spending a little extra, you can prob pick up a Versace suit on sale for $700 (Just add it to the million dollar load that you will have to take out for dental school).

I would go with Zara, since you are skinny. I wish I could fit into those suits - my biceps are too big 🙁

Brooks Brothers have some nice suits.

Agreed, but they all seem to be targeting the 40+ age range. They have great shirts though.

Stay away from express, they have crappy suits in my opinion. Try Macy's or Nordstrom they have a variety of suits in different styles. I got a nice slim fit Calvin Klein suit from Macys

really depends on your budget. the best mall brand suits (aside from made to measure designer suits at upscale dept stores) are probably brooks bros. they have a couple slimmer suits which i think are the milano and fitzgerald line ($500-700). personally, i stay away from places like mens warehouse, macys, etc. because the suits aren't well made, typically all fused, and many are synthetic fabrics.

the best suits cost money, but are worth it. a lower end MTM at dept stores would be hickey, zegna, canali and may run 1000-1500 but the fabrics and fit would be made for you, not waiting on a rack. if you're lucky enough to have a good tailor, you could have him make one of this same quality for possibly cheaper.

my best advice...get a fabric thats natural and breathable, like wool and if possible, a canvassed suit will fit better and last longer than a fused one. if you can afford a 10K kiton or brioni suit, do it.

I suggest somthing like this suit. Not too spendy and will do the job. Macy's and Norstrom rack have good sales.

You're a thinner guy, so you can pull off modern fit or an american fit. Try both on and see which looks best on you. Stick to neutral colors - navy, char, or ... if you must black (too formal for interviews IMO.

Macy's, Sym's, Lord and Tailor, are a few places that may have what your looking for. Also try local smaller stores that will usually have lower end suits at a pretty decent price.

+1

looks like we go for the same style

Get yourself a cheap suit at JCPenny or Sears and have it tailored to fit you. Nothing beats a nice fitting suit custom suit for your body type. It'll fit a lot nicer and you'll feel a lot better about yourself. Why spend 400-500 on jacket/pants that fit like a moomoo.

I forgot about those 2, same deal 200 on the suit and 35 on alterations and you will look just as sharp as the guy wearing the same suit bought at express for twice the price.

Try K&G Fashion's store, it's a branch of Men's Wearhouse and the suits are almost the same except half the cost. You can get a suit for about 80 bucks if your on budget and altered in the store. I know cause I do the alterations 👍👍👍.
