yeah when I started med school -- I was a size 2. now i'm a size 4-6

so new suit here.

Definitely dusting off the old one... haven't worn it since my med school interview but it still fits and I refuse to think I bought it for a single occasion. Plus it got me where I am now... hoping it will help with this step too! 😀

Medicine is thought of as being traditional so safer to go with conservative black, dark blue, grey, or pin stripe. But I did see a few people at some very good programs in brown or even a surprisingly nice green.

my fiance did....others that I saw during the interview trail w/ her also did...but there is a thread (I think in anesthesiology) that discusses ladies' attire down to the type of shoes and bags...i kid you not!! 😉

I have an Alfred Dunner jacket to combat the cold weaither. It fits nicely over my Talbot's black pant suit which I also bought a skirt to go with, easy spirit black shoes, with a small heel, but nothing too serious because Im NOT WEARING POINTY TOES OR HIGH HEELS.

Also have some nice and flashy dress shirts for under my suit so I don't look like a "suit" but thats all I'm doing

NICE...was thinking 'bout wearing something like that too, but maybe in a purple/velvety color and a fake pipe to go with it....

BUT SERIOUSLY, DO YOU GUYS AND LADIES THINK THAT WEARING A 3-PIECE SUIT IS OVERKILL!!!

I have this AWESOME 3-piece (I have a "thing" for 3 piece) and yes...I look DAMN good in it too

Unless you're going to a funeral after the interview, I'd avoid black. As the saying goes, the men who run this country dress in grey, blue, and boring. (I don't know what the women who run the country wear.)

but what 'bout a 3 piece...wouldn't that be stiff, but appropriate?

Last year everyone wore jeans and a niceish shirt for pre-interview dinners. This was IM so I can't speak for the other specialties.

When I played football we had a saying.. Look good play good. This is really more about mentality than anything else. if you feel like a million bucks your confidence will show. If you already have a nice suit.. I think you should get a new shirt and tie.. There is something about new clothes that gives you confidence.. or maybe thats just me cause i have precious little else going for me 🙂

Ladies - how do you keep your knee-highs from constantly falling down? Also, would it look bad to change into comfortable shoes right before the tour? Any input appreciated!

I think pants/slacks are fine for women to wear.

My husband's wearing either a charcoal or navy suit- nothing fancy or expensive- just clean and conservative.

I think it would be awkward to change shoes in the middle of the day. might be worth it to invest in a more comfortable and dressy shoe for interviews and beyond. Not sure if Aerosoles has anything that would look good with your outfit, but their shoes are super comfy and pretty "modern" looking.

Knee highs slipping- I usually wore thicker trouser socks to work, but if that's not an option, I would just invest in a more expensive brand- something with a good band at the top that prevents slips. Sometimes, I would fold the socks down so they couldn't fall down on their own- I don't really have a solution, I just know how annoying it can be!

Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely try that. I'm 6'1 and er-hum, have rather sizable feet so it's super hard to find shoes to fit. I was that close to looking into custom-made shoes, but the starting price tag of $325 had me gagging.

I'm not in school. I'm a stay at home mom. It's hard not seeing my husband often, but I find getting more involved in his career helps. When he is home, we try to make sure we get some quality family time in. I've been with him since pre-med days so I'm pretty prepared/used to the lifestyle.
