Other comments-
I think pants/slacks are fine for women to wear.
My husband's wearing either a charcoal or navy suit- nothing fancy or expensive- just clean and conservative.
I think it would be awkward to change shoes in the middle of the day. might be worth it to invest in a more comfortable and dressy shoe for interviews and beyond. Not sure if Aerosoles has anything that would look good with your outfit, but their shoes are super comfy and pretty "modern" looking.
Knee highs slipping- I usually wore thicker trouser socks to work, but if that's not an option, I would just invest in a more expensive brand- something with a good band at the top that prevents slips. Sometimes, I would fold the socks down so they couldn't fall down on their own- I don't really have a solution, I just know how annoying it can be!
