Do most people still do an internship/go abroad, etc during the summer after their junior year, when it's MCAT and application season? If so, would you recommend to go abroad or do internships before that summer and use that summer to focus on apps?

No I don't think most people do since you're so busy taking the MCATs and filling out secondaries etc...though is it possible? Probably. Have people done it in the past? Probably. I'd recommend going abroad etc. before that summer or even after that summer rather than doing it that summer. Focus on getting the score that you want on the MCAT/sending out a stellar application and then do whatever you want to do after that.

I don't think it's necessary to set aside an entire summer to work on apps. I had a full-time research position over that summer while working on applications, as did most of my friends. However, we had all already taken the MCAT (norm at our school is to take it the summer after sophomore year). I think that part-time work/internship/etc. + MCAT studying + apps is feasible if you're reasonably grounded in the MCAT topics beforehand and you already have some ideas laid out for your personal statement/possible secondaries.

if OP hasn't taken MCAT yet, that should be the #1 priority. If OP has taken MCAT already, agreed. I think the biggest part of this is whether the MCAT has been taken as you could definitely do primary/secondaries while doing other activities...but definitely not studying for the MCAT/primaries/secondaries while doing research or travelling.

Definitely. MCAT>>ECs until acceptance letter. Then 100% dick around. I'm in the latter stage right now 🙂

Most of the people I know are staying in the country and working in a research lab either full or part time. Just so they have time to focus on the application and secondaries. I feel like it'd be pretty hard to submit secondaries if you're overseas without constant internet/computer access!
