Summer Assistantships

I am a M1 who is trying to find assistantships/externships in psychiatry for the summer. I finished a PhD just prior to coming to medical school, and am a little bit (hugely and vastly) burned out on research so I am trying to find something that is mainly clinical assistantship focused.

I applied to the sole local psychiatry externship associated with my school and also the Scaife Foundation addiction fellowship in PA but I am coming up blank on additional externships that are not solely for underrepresented medical students.

Does anyone know of assistantships in their area that are open to non-local med students? Hopefully that provides housing or a stipend?

You could try writing to different hospitals directly that you want to volunteer at.

what is an assistantship? who is going to pay an MS1 to be anything other than a lab monkey? (serious question as i'd be interested to know what opportunities there above what i've already posted)

I think you may have better luck just applying for a job as a tech at a psych hospital. That or ask an attending if you could shadow for a week.

I won't deny that it's a crazy good deal for students that really makes no rational sense. But they exist for a lot of specialities, including psych. Here are some of the examples that I have found:
