I will be applying in the fall of 2015. That is a long way away, but I would like to go ahead and ask this question. Would taking 2 or 3 GPA boost/fun classes during the 1st term Summer of the application season in 2015 be a good idea? When I receive my grades around July, will I be able to include them on AMCAS? As it is now, I have a tentative schedule planned out all the way into the end of my junior year, so I know what I will be taking to that point. I would like to have my GPA up to ≈3.7 by the end of summer "15. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!

You will ideally be applying during the SUMMER of 2015, not the fall, unless you meant applying FOR admission into med school for FALL '15.

Hmm. You are right. I would want to apply early. Can take early summer courses during application and update the AMCAS with a new GPA and submit before August 1st? I am applying to enter Fall '16 btw.

Submitting your primary in June is ideal. I don't think you can update your AMCAS after you submit, but you can still update schools on new grades individually.

Wait. Are you planning to apply after you graduate? Regardless, grade updates are best sent post-interview. It'll likely be a very marginal increase in your GPA at best, so the updates won't help much.

You wont update your app with grades since your primary better be submitted in June. I studied my tail of for the mcat for the first part of summer, and worked for money the rest of the time, preferably medically related obviously.

I am taking the MCAT in August of next year after studying all Summer. My advisor and I found that my GPA, with my currently planned courses, could get as high as a 3.65 by the time I apply in 2015. I was just wondering if I could have taken a bit of time over the summer to bump it up a tad, but 3.6ish is not that bad from what I see in WAMC. Is there a good site available with info on the complete, beginning to end, application process? Once I know that, I can plan better.

If you are planning to apply in 2015, you can certainly take summer courses next year, 2014. Once you apply, you can't change the information in the application, but you can send updates to individual schools.

Does your calendar look like this:
2013-2014 - current school year
2014-2015 - study for / take MCAT, take summer classes
2015-2016 - apply, begin senior year
2016-2017 - graduate in May/June, enter medical school in Aug/Sept

Close. Except I plan on taking the MCAT in August following a Summer of hard studying. Taking a few classes during that time is a good option. I'll probably take some writing classes, as I am interested in that. Those should be easy As, also.
