Hi SDN, I'm currently a freshman on the premed track. My GPA is pretty high, and if all goes as planned, will still be high by the end of the semester. I haven't taken biology and am considering taking it in the summer rather than in the fall, since I'd be in other difficult courses and don't want to jeopardize my GPA.

Does it look bad to have a summer bio course? If it does, is it worse to take it in the summer or in the fall and jeopardize my GPA (&sanity)?

Some schools don't like summer courses but I'm off the opinion that if one is taking it at their institution it shouldn't be that big of a deal. Now I am not saying that you should do that for all your pre-req courses, but I can't imagine taking one summer course will affect you that negatively.

What science courses have you taken?

As long as it's at your home university I don't think even more than 1 or 2 is a problem. I would say it only looks bad if every summer you're taking core courses away from your university...

It doesn't have to be at your home university. If you go to private school, summer courses can be$$$. At my uni it is totally normal to go home and take them at a much cheaper public school. I think adcom members understand this.
