I go to a Canadian university where English isn't required to complete my program so I was thinking of taking 1.0 credit worth (two separate 0.5 credit) of English in the summer. Do American dental schools allow you to take pre-reqs in the summer?

Yes, that's fine. Summer courses aren't a problem with American dental schools.
