Summer following D1 and 2

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
depends on how the school structures its schedule. Alot of schools have the first summer off and the second summer is normally there for you to take the national board part I's. Some schools don't give you that long of a break though.

Case gives 3 months off, but that is to encourage students to participate in summer researches.

At Nova we have a review type course, I believe, then we take our part I board in the summer after D1. I think it will give more time to focus on the patient care in as D2s rather than our boards during that year, but we'll be pretty slammed in our D1 year. However, the extra time to study for our boards would be beneficial. Its all in how you look at it, but I like getting it out of the way while it is fresh.

Actually at Nova you do have classes the summer after your first year, but only one day a week. You do get a four week break in May and a one week break at the beginning of August. After second year you start clinic in summer with a one week break in June and another in August. I would imagine at most schools you don't really get a break after second year and having a break after first year would vary from school to school.

at Detroit Mercy, we have less than a week between Winter and Summer semester... but then we get about 2 weeks between than Summer and the next Fall semester. So ya, its not that much. Christmas break is the longest, at about 3 or even 4 weeks

At Louisville, we had about 4 weeks after D1. For the summer term, we only had class in the morning 4 days a week though, so that was nice. I miss that! Classes ended the second week of July and we came back the second week of August.
This summer, after D2, we have a total of 4 weeks, but they are spread out. We have one week in May between the spring semester and the summer one. Then we have 2 weeks in July, but they are pretty much just for studying for boards. Then we have a week in August right before the fall semester starts. For the first half of the summer (except the weeks of Endo boot camp) we have board review/study time in the morning and clinic in the afternoon. Then the last half we have clinic all day.

at USC you do not get the first summer off...we have a full summer trimester which is actually pretty intense!!! we get two weeks off b/w summer and fall trimester! thats all!
