i am tired of summer school and i am looking for something different to do this summer. besides shadowing dentists, i want to try research. i am from NJ and i will not be able to leave NJ/NY this summer. does anyone have any suggestions on good summer programs?? pleaseee?

See if your school and schools nearby have summer research programs. This could be an REU (research experience for undergraduates) or a SURE (SUmmer Research Experience) type of a program, which pays your a stipend and can be quite competitive to get into. Those programs usually last 2 months and pay roughly 2-4K. However, it is quite late to apply to those programs.

If that fails, look around your campus. Who's doing research and whose research looks cool? See if the PI can take you for the summer on a small project. The experience is worth doing the research for free, trust me.
