Summer Internship question

Hey everyone, To the people who have done internships (or ppl who know stuff about them) what kind of things are available for pre-dents? Do schools offer some type of internship with thier dental clinics? I am trying to plan what I am doing next summer (junior to senior year summer) and need some input. Thanks!!

My advice

See if you can get a job assisting. Most places would love to hire a pre-dental student.

Another option, is hooking up with a dental lab.
Many people going into dental school are smart, good students....But , the real mystery is, how are you with the dental materials? Most people, including myself, have no ideahow to handle all this crap. If you can get some experience pouring up models, using wax, setting up teeth..... I think that would be a huge advantage over everyone else.
Also, try volunteering in a larg hospital that has an oral surgery program or a dental residency program. They also would love to have you.

Hook up with an oral surgeon, so u can get a good supply of teeth for dental school.

I found a great opportunity through the pre-dent advisor at my undergrad school. The city funds a reduced rate/free dental clinic for the needy. The clinic is only open 1-2 evenings per week as it is staffed by volunteer dentists. They started me out just watching and helping to clean the room between patients. After a few months I began training to be a dental assistant. Now after a year, I feel extremely comfortable assisting with most restorations and extractions.

It has been the most influential experience to date. It gave me hands on experience with the dental profession and helped solidify me decision to pursue a career in dentistry! I look forward to it every week!! 😀
