I got accepted to a summer research internship at a SOM, but can I put it on my app if I'm applying this year? Also, is it smart to even take the internship if I'm applying (it's only until end of July, I plan on submitting early June and MCAT late May)? I have a 2 days before I have to accept/deny, so any help appreciated!

Short list:
Pros:
-At a SOM I want to attend (make connections?)
-Stipend
-Never been part of a internship before

Cons:
-During app cycle

I'll try my best to prewrite secondaries but still, any help appreciated! Also this new look on SDN looks awesome!

From what I've heard you can put future activities you will be during during the application cycle so schools will know about it. If you got nothing going on and have the time, then go for it but I wouldn't get your hopes up about making a connection that'll help you. I did an internship at a SOM and I only got to interact with the researchers at that SOM and not any doctors or anyone pertaining to admissions.

I would only put it on the app if you started before you apply. Even then only when you've done something substantial. Other people will chime in with how many hours your should have completed before it's worth adding to your app.

You can do the internship while applying depending on what else you have going on. I worked full time when I applied and it was fine.

@PreMedStudent55555 I'm definitely not getting my hopes up, I listed it just because but definitely not expected.

@Niwde I don't think I'll have done something substantial, but It'll be a lot of research experience/hours done by the end of it and I know it's much harder to put it as an update. Anyways, thank you! Also, how was it working full-time while applying? Any tips?

I work 50hrs a week and applied to 29 schools within 3-4 weeks. It can be done if you prewrite and don't mind giving up a few weekends. Also, I would argue if you apply early June you can take a little longer on secondary turnaround since thats early, just don't submit a primary in late July or something and you might get swamped

write your personal essay now. Google past prompts and prewrite secondaries. I started writing secondaries before I even submitted primaries. Try to submit secondaries within 2 weeks. Apply early (!). You might have long days (or nights) that suck but you just have to bite the bullet and get your apps done. It's the same for everyone.
