Hi I was hoping to get some advice on what I should do. I was late to decide that I wanted to go to medical school, so I feel one of my weaknesses is extracurriculars. I am also an athlete which takes up a lot of time. I plan to apply this summer and I am not sure what job I should do over the summer, or if it matters.

I can get a babysitting job for all summer and make a lot of money, but not sure how this will help me for medical school. I am wondering if I should try and find a job somewhere else that is more relevant. This is also the start of my gap year too, so I have a lot of time when I graduate. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

what kind of ECs do you have already

Is this babysitting more of a nanny job (aka full time work)?
What are you planning on doing for your gap year?
What do you have for relevant extracurriculars already?

Just by what you provided, I would suggest you start volunteering in a hospital and shadowing a lot while you work. I would look into getting a job doing research or in a medical field (scribe/CNA/etc...) as well.

Yea it is full time work so more like a nanny I guess. And I hadn't decided on my gap year yet except maybe research or teaching.

So far I have a semester of research and about 100 hrs volunteering in a hospital. I also have been shadowing this semester and I volunteer once a week at an inner city school. Other than that I've always had a job to pay for school and played soccer as a scholarship athlete. I have been a volunteer coach too. Compared to everyone else I've seen, I'm definitely lacking here I feel like. I may be missing other things but that is the major parts I think.
