I'm currently a junior in college and I'll be taking the DAT at the end of the summer of 2015. I plan on dedicating around 10 week of my summer to studying for the DAT before I take it, but that still leaves me with a decent amount of time during my summer, and I need advice on how I should spend it. I'd preferably like to do something that's related to dentistry and that will also pay, like a part time job at a dentist's office, but I'm not really sure how to go about that. I have plenty of shadowing hours so I'm not interested in continuing to shadow. Has anyone here gotten a job at a dentist's office without actually being trained as an assistant or have any advice on what else I could do during the summer other than study for the DAT?

Yes shadow a dentist! That's also the best way to land a job--after shadowing a dentist for a few weeks during May she offered a job at her clinic. If you get along well with the dentist(s) and the staff at the clinic, come on time, act professional, show genuine interest, and just overall make a good impression (and of course if they have an open position lol) you will probably be offered some sort of a job.

Or maybe that was just my experience.....

EDIT: I just reread your post, I saw that you said you already shadowed plenty of dentists and were not interested in that. I would recommend maybe visiting the offices of the dentists you shadowed and ask them if they have any open positions/employment opportunities or if they know any dental offices nearby that could hire you. Connections can go a long way, especially if you can get a dentist you shadowed to vouch for your character. You would need training to be a dental assistant or someone who performs procedures on patients but you don't need training to be say, a receptionist or secretary but you would still get lots of exposure to patients, know basic dental procedure, etc.

^^ what the previous post said. I think you are more likely to get a job from a previous dentist you shadowed. Most places won't even look at your resume if you don't have training and are not X-ray certified. Plus let's not forget the fact that it is only for the summer. Dental clinics prefer people who will stay longer.
