Hi SDN Members,

As i am finishing up my first year of college at a UC, i am looking for things to do over summer. So far, I have decided to obtain my EMT-Basic license here in California. I also have a few doctors set up to shadow at various hospitals and am going to look for places to volunteer at! Does anybody else have any suggestions of what would be a good addition to my plans? Thank you!

Stay hydrated and have some fun in the sun. My first summer I got my EMT-B as well but didn't do much else. I can't complain because it was also the last real opportunity I had to hang out with my friends from high school before they all got jobs or internships all over the place.

You're set for this summer. As for the NEXT summer, start looking into programs such as SMDEP or undergraduate research programs.

Best of luck, OP!

1. EMT-B course at the local community college which will be MWF 0900-1600 weekly. Runs from mid-May to the very last day of July.

2. Work as a scribe TR in the ER at my hospital weekly, alternating additional shifts each other weekend. I'm going to try to shadow some surgeries as well.

3. In early August, go on a quick east-coast tour with a band as part of their road crew. Slinging t-shirts. :headphone:

Then back to schoooooool... 🙁
