I'm doing research, volunteering with a shelter vet, and probably some other stuff yet to be decided. 🙂

Working full time (non vet-med field) and trying to stay sane. I reeeeeally wish I could quit sooner but health insurance and all that fun stuff dictates that I stay here until August. As I mentioned in the other post I'm going to try to set up some sort of exercise schedule (maybe even take a ballet class?) and eat a bit healthier. I also have about 6 years of digital photos I'd like to go through and edit/purge but this has been my goal for a few summers now so we'll see

Honestly I'm just grateful to the new rules that will let me go back on my parent's health insurance plan - luckily I don't turn 26 until the end of the summer, my birthday timed it perfectly so I can just jump from that onto the school plan.

Good for you for doing the health thing this summer! I feel like that's been my goal for a few years now (eating healthier and exercising more) and I just manage to keep putting it off.

Good luck going through the photos! It would probably take me a year because I love going through photo albums and reliving the experiences looking at the photos, and before you know it 4 hours have passed and I haven't accomplished anything 😛

Hopefully going to Comic-con...

Hate you... 😛

I'm working on a research project at school, from May 6 untl Aug 4. Then I have three weeks off before school starts again, and I'll probably spend that at home in NS helping with my parents' business. I have a wedding to go to at the end of June, and my older sister is due to have her first child in May. Weekends and evenings are mine though! Looking forward to movie nights, gaming, maybe eating out now and then (for all it's shortcomings, Charlottetown really has some awesome food).

Lol, well, I did say hopefully. I had to work the day the tickets went on sale and I had 2 people trying for me and still didn't get one. But, I've been saving for a year to go!! My friend went last year and had a blast!

I have no idea, which is stressing me out!! I've applied for a research assistant postition on a cattle genomics project, but I don't find out if I got it until next month. I might have the opportunity to work in a gene therapy research lab if I don't get the cattle project, but the researcher hasn't gotten back to me after the last research group meeting. Might have a chance to volunteer at my vet's clinic, but scheduling is up in the air. Might have an in to the Capital Health human genetics lab, but I'm waiting to see what happens with everything else before I make that call because it would be calling in a major favour. Gaah... I just don't know!!

I'm another one doing a once in a lifetime trip, although mine's an Asiaventure. Thailand has always been my dream destination, so I'm going there and a few other places, especially Japan! It's my graduation present from my dad, who's going with me. 😀

During the majority of the summer I'm hoping to get a job (non-vet-related) and save up some money. Hopefully I'll be able to do some riding, too, and I've got a gym membership so I should do some fitness stuff as well. I also have a secret not-fleshed-out-yet plan to go visit my bf before school starts. I'll be working over the summer so I'll be able to save the money and no one can stop me!

So jealous!! Japan is the one place I want to travel to!!

I'll graduate in May with my masters then continue working full time at the clinic I am currently at. I may try and hang around some of the equine vets I know. Then riding my horse a lot. I'll probably stop working full time at the end of June and just take a break. I really need one.

1. Europe trip.

2. California trip?

3. Read lots of bookz

4. 😴

What part of California? 😀

Summer Plans:
-- Begin volunteering with the shelter vet if I haven't already (their orientation will either be in April or June and trainings and interviews come after orientation)
-- Continue working at the animal dentistry clinic
-- Begin my internship doing research with horses
-- Finish out working with the wildlife center
-- Work, work, work and then enjoy what time I can before I go back to school in the fall to finish my pre-reqs 😛

Right after graduation I'm going on a week-long camping trip to Outer Banks, NC with my school's Wilderness Club. We're going hiking, kayaking, and taking an ATV tour to see wild horses 🙂

I plan to find a job when I get back and make as much money as I can before moving to Columbus at the end of July!

I applied for a few internships away from home for the summer but didn't get any of them. Now I'm kind of happy I didn't. I'm just working one day a week for the summer, plus continuing to volunteer as a tech at the zoo two days a week. Otherwise the time is all mine! I'm excited to get a chance to relax.

Going to VidCon with my SO! 😀 Maybe another short vacation, too? It depends on how much time he can take away from the lab (chem grad school).

Continuing to volunteer at the raptor rehab center, fostering orphan kittens (if the house we live in is done being renovated), maybe getting visited by various friends and family. 😍

Nice choice. 😉

If you ever fancy an SDNer as your tour guide, lemme know! But if you end up going, have fun. 😀

Heh, thanks. I've been before, and to SoCal plenty of times (sis went to UCLA) and I have a good friend who goes to UC Berkley, so I'm sure she'd show me a good time 😛

What part of Europe? 🙂

Germany, Brussels, Amsterdam

OT Do you have a favorite Youtuber?

It's so hard to choose! Maybe Harto. I do love Harto a lot. I am also becomming increasingly enamored of The Brain Scoop. And of course, there's Ze Frank, the Vlogbrothers, CorridorDigital, FreddieW, MinutePhysics, CGP Grey, Vi Hart....

My Summer Plan as of right now involves

Continuing to work for my lab
Volunteering at a Wildlife Clinic to get more clinical experience
Catching up with working on my drawings and paintings
Dog-sitting my grandparent's dogs
Going on a road trip to Seattle WA to help my boyfriend move for his new job
Cleaning/going through my stuff from undergrad and getting rid of things I don't need

Bracing myself before vet school starts and gathering all the advice I can 😉

haha Definitely! I subscribe to everyone except Hannah Hart.

Gotta love the Vlogbrothers. Really enjoyed the wolf dissection on The Brain Scoop. I wish I could have been there to... help. 😉

As for my summer, I will continuing volunteering at the wildlife clinic, ride my horse as much as possible, draw, read, sleep, exercise, and work a few hours a week for a local LA veterinarian. I'd love to be able to work on the landscaping around my house. We lost a lot of trees this winter and the land is in some serious need of re-foresting. Maybe put up some bat houses too.

I will *hopefully* be interning at a wildlife rehab center :xf:
Volunteering at the spay/neuter clinic at my local shelter again 😍
Volunteering at a equine rescue
Shadowing a SA vet
Shadowing a LA vet
Working at the family bizz
and of course, above all… golfing. :meanie:

work. work. work. picking up extra weekends also. yay monies. (+ volunteering at vx clinic and riding co-worker's horse from time to time and pet-sitting.)
think I'm going to give myself one week before moving and two after moving and before anything starts.
yes, I am that exciting.

I'm starting my wildlife medicine externship at the local wildlife center in about a week. So excited!
After that it's 6 weeks of microbiology (really should've taken it during undergrad.) Not so excited.

In between all that I'll teach a few riding lessons here and there in exchange for some free rides...and also work on my 2nd round of VMCAS apps. '

In July or August I'll spend a month or so in CO with a ECC vet friend who offered to let me shadow her at work.

After that, who the heck knows what I'll be doing with my life.

I'm working a non-vet job that pays me room and board, and doing vet things in my spare time. I've arranged a couple of shadowing experiences with the vets at the NCSU teaching hospital, hopefully shadowing at a nearby companion/exotics vet, and arranging a project with the living collections of a nearby museum. Also studying for the GRE in early August. I plan to be busy, but nap often. 😀

Aww look at my pre-vet plans. 😀 They actually all worked out that summer, with the exception of the project with the museum. Vet kinda dropped the ball on that one, but oh well.

This summer I'm "playing" with penguins in South Africa, then coming back and hopefully doing some shadowing in a couple wellness specialties at the hospital.

I'm going to Hong Kong May-July and will be shadowing SA surgeons there. Also going to stop over in Japan and South Korea for a couple of weeks.

Hopefully will be doing a weekend trip/road trip of some sort to Montreal/Quebec City with my SO once I'm back in Canada in August.

I will be doing animal husbandry work from June-July, moving to a new flat at the end of July/early August and then maybe, possibly, hopefully going back to AZ from early-mid August until September... we shall see depends on $$....

Those are my exciting summer plans...

For people in vet school/going this year:
Is it okay to just chill the summer before vet school or is this frowned upon? Does the school check up on you or ask during interviews to "test your dedication" or something. As much as I love getting vet experience over my breaks, I would hope that the last summer I could just reward myself with food, sleep, and more sleep. Thoughts?

I would definitely savor your last summer of freedom! Have fun & relax. All they care about is if you send in your deposit and finish all required pre-reqs once you've been accepted.

It's up to you if you want to get more vet experience or not. Me personally I will go crazy if I sat around the house all summer with nothing to do, so I'm volunteering in a clinic to get more experience (helpful down the road for applying to other things) and doing some traveling. Plus I find working in clinics fun so I can't imagine doing anything else.

I'm working part time at the shelter that I've been working at since before I got into vet school. I'm also either going to volunteer at our wildlife clinic or find something else to do to diversify my experiences.

I'm spending two weeks volunteering in the Galapagos with Darwin Animal Doctors, which I am SO EXCITED about!

And I'm going to start working on a list of books to read this summer since I've barely read for pleasure since school started.

Oh cool! Kind of jealous. My mother just got back from 10 days in the Galapagos and her pictures make it look absolutely gorgeous. Some really cool wildlife there. Hope you have time for a bit of sightseeing in the islands!

Yeah, at least a few of us (there's eight students from my school going) are planning on staying for a few extra days to just explore and we'll have weekends off during the two weeks we're there. I'm super stoked because I want to travel more but have only left the US once and it's great that I get to mix traveling with providing veterinary care to the needy

As of right now I'll be spending a month in indiana then I'll be in los angeles/burbank area for june, july, and part of august. Not quite sure what i'm doing at either place but my goals are to relax and play with ponies 🙂 My boyfriend and his family live in culver city area and he's an assistant trainer at the LAEC so I'll just kinda hop between the beach and the barn most days hopefully 🙂 Maybe ride with a few vets to start meeting local equine vets, but just simple shadowing.

Which barn at the LAEC? That's where I've been teaching some lessons ^.^

You're going to love it! Galapagos is amazing, such a beautiful place. I spent a couple weeks on mainland Ecuador (which is pretty in its own way) doing volunteer work and decided the opportunity was too good to possibly pass up, so went to the islands for about 10 days with a friend. I wanted to go back the minute I left the place.

Make sure to check out Puerto Ayora at night, it's quite pretty, and there was a cafe near by that had $1 gelato; I went there far too often

If you can, perhaps use your extra days to get off of Santa Cruz and see more of the islands! Enjoy your trip 😀

Thanks! And I think I may make nightly trips for $1 gelato 🙂 That sounds amazing!

And it's really not much of a trip, just a short walk down the road from the research station; they're both right along the water. You can sit and eat your gelato out on the pier and good chance you'll see some sharks 🙂

Working my butt off and saving money!!!

+Working full time at a SA ER/ referral clinic $$$
+Working part time in a SA GP $$
+Petsitting $
+Hopefully my fiancé will get home from deployment during summer and I can spend some time with him before heading to Mizzou in the fall !!

I've got money on my mind :naughty:

Which barn at the LAEC? That's where I've been teaching some lessons ^.^

He works for Winter Park Farms and just recently started at TES. He was with WPF a long time ago, and then recently went back home and started again. I think it's kinda right next door to sovern (sp?) place, a reining barn, and a guy named Tim that does dressage.

Where do you give lessons at?

Food animal research (haven't decided my project yet) and spending the last extended period of time that I have with the SO. No more summers for me 🙁

My husband and I will be missing SDCC for the first time in many years, and we're really bummed. He's in entertainment, so we always get in for free without the worry of lines and tickets selling out. 😀 But we'll be in Philly this July.

This summer... I GRADUATE VET SCHOOL!!! :soexcited: Then move myself, my husband, and my five kitties across country to start my residency at UPenn July 1. 🙂

Ahhhhh! Wow! Congratulations!! :highfive: I don't even know you and I'm sitting here excited for ya~!

Oh cool. I teach for Jin at Golden Hill (over at the polo barns).

Sorry for veering OT, folks!
