I've check the AMA list and a few others, but all the programs seem highly competitive. I have a 3.8, am attending Medgar Evers university and have one year of anatomy physiology, gen chem and pre-cal under my belt, live in new york. Looking for something that will bolster my med school app, help me learn a good deal, and not be out of my reach to get into. Any suggestions?

I don't know which programs are great but instead of taking a course why not volunteer in your community/abroad? I think shadowing a physican and getting a letter of recommendation later on will boost your application 🙂

Could you tell me what list from AMA you're talking about? Are you talking about those post baccalaureate premed programs?

by ama i ment aamc.. sorry.
I'm trying to get some shadowing in, but was hoping to do a research project during the summer to help me out. I'm doing my first year of pre-med courses and have a 3.8 (4.0 sci), but my school isn't rated so high (Medgar Evers Univ) and I'm perpetually worried bout the mcats. Does anyone know of anything? Maybe something with a little mcat prep in it? Or perhaps a program that links into a med school and increases your chances?

I'm nearby at CUNY NYC College of Technology 🙂

There are a number of summer programs in the NYC area that you may want to check out, though I assume you already looked at a few from the website you linked to. It seems that many of these programs require you to be in your sophomore or junior year.

Have you tried doing any research with any of the faculty at Medgar Evers? This may be the best option for your first summer research experience. Simply email those that are doing research you're interested in, and let them know what you're looking for. Since this is only your first year, it's honestly too early to take an MCAT prep course (since you haven't finished the pre-reqs yet).

How is Cuny Tech's premed program? Where is it located?
Medgar is pretty good, but it has its downfalls.
I just landed an internship with a clinic in Nicaragua!
