Hey all,

I'm a rising junior in college and I plan on applying to med schools next summer. I know this is a bit too early to think about but I was thinking about doing a summer program on the side when applying. The program will probably begin in June and end in early August.

To the students who have already applied or in the process, do you think this is a good idea? I mean, how much time commitment does the application take? Will it take over my life or will I be able to pursue, let's say, a full time summer program?

Thanks!

You'll be able to do it. Applying is annoying, and it will tank the occasional weekend with secondaries and whatnot, but that's it. It's nowhere close to a full-time job.

Plus, if you're thinking ahead (and it looks like you are) you can get stuff finished in preparation for actual deadlines, which saves a lot of hustle and strife.

i was planning on doing the same thing as u OP, hopefully we'll be successful!

Applying to med school is not a job, it's a hobby at best. Not only could you do it, but it would help your application to show that you are busy working and (probably) doing something worthwhile. Best of luck.

Thank you all for your input!

I guess I'll stick with my idea of pursuing a summer program during application time! Yay!
