I am currently a MSI at Wayne State University and I am very interested in PM&R. I spoke with a doctor from the rehab institude of michigan and he said that they offer an "observership" type program that would go on for 2 months and you would be compensated with a little stipend. I was wondering if anyone did a program like this or this program? Did it help, was it interesting? Also would this be a good thing to help with residency applications? Thanks!!!

Hello fellow Wayne Stater from a recent grad!

Early exposure can't hurt, probably will help. However, 2 months? 😱

Remember, in betwixt MS1 & MS2 is the only summer you will have off during medical school at Wayne. And you will have plenty of opportunities to pursue rehab experience at Wayne. I did a week of Peds PM&R during the outpatient part of Peds MS3, as well as 3 electives (1 month MS3 & 2 months MS4).

If you have any questions about the SE Michigan programs, PM me!

check out northwestern's/RIC's summer externship program for medical students. unbeatable experience!

Howdy,

I did the summer observership last summer and it was a great experience. Before coming to wayne I had never even heard of PM&R so I did that observership to check it out. They have you spend most of your time at RIM, but I also got over to Sinai Grace, and an outpatient Clinic in Farmington Hills for a week. If you are interested the person you need to get in contact with is Colleen Ciavrella, I believe her office is on the 5th floor at RIM but I'm not sure. If you have any questions drop me an email.
