Hi, friends.

Is anyone familiar with the SURF programs at the Scripps Research Institute (La Jolla, CA) or the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT, and Harvard (Cambridge, MA)? The research projects at both sites are similar.

Which would you choose, and why?

Choose based off of your research interests. If it's really that similar then go with whichever professor you feel more comfortable with.

I'd enjoy Boston/The Northeast better than La Jolla/SoCal, but that's completely personal preference. In terms of boosting your app, it really doesn't matter either way. You could PubMed the PIs at each institution and choose the one that publishes more often or to higher impact journals, but as a SURF student, getting onto a pub is quite a toss-up. So for me it would come down to (1) which project I like better (2) location (3) the track-record of each lab in that order.
