Hello all,

I was hoping to do some research this summer, but I was a little late getting on the application process. I've already applied to a few programs but was wondering if you guys know of any more still taking applications. I'd be interested in anything having to do with neuroscience, heart research, immunology, genetics, or cell and molecular, and I'm mostly focused on research-heavy schools on the east coast (AKA the schools I'm aiming to get in to). The program needs to have at least enough of a stipend to pay for housing and food. I'm a junior this year and not a minority in any way.

Thanks!

Go to the NSF's REU page, where you'll see programs and their deadlines. I know a couple programs have deadlines extending into March (which doesn't give you a whole lot of time, but at least you haven't missed the deadline yet). I know that many of the schools in my area are still accepting applications (but I'm in the Midwest). Unfortunately, you'll be hard-pressed to find an actual research program at an east coast school that is still accepting applications, but you may be able to e-mail a bunch of PIs in schools you are interested in working at to see if they have spaces in their lab.

When you e-mail PIs just keep in mind that they may have an opportunity for you to do some research with them, but may not have money. If this is the case, you can search for external grants in your area that will support a summer of research (contact you'r school's undergrad research department, financial aid department, or anyone you know who has an active role in undergrad research services).

If you have experience, I'm sure the PIs don't stop reading their emails after a certain date. If you don't have experience, try anyways. Also, can you research at a local institution and live with your parents?
