Is it okay to take the summer off as a pre med? Or should we always be doing summer classes, research,or something? Does it look bad to med s schools to take the summer off?

It'd be healthy for you to do something constructive like taking a class, getting a job, volunteering, etc. But nothing is expected during summer months.

I'd recommend traveling! (If money's not an issue)

You should do what you want to do. However, this doesn't mean not doing anything. Surely you have a few interests or things needing to be done like maybe learning a language or taking a class, a job, etc. Just be productive 🙂

You don't have to do anything but when it comes time to put in that application and you don't have anything to put down for those 15 slots (leadership, work experience, volunteering, etc.) don't regret it.

Do something meaningful. Summer is a great time to volunteer, since (at least in my area) there's more of a need for volunteers once all the college kids have gone away. Summer is also a great time to shadow, since you'll have more free time during regular business hours. A lot of people do summer research (again, more free time), but its not required to do so.

Basically, do what you want, but sitting on your butt playing video games is probably not a good use of your time.

I took my first summer off and I was bored as hell. Definitely do something. Travel, get a job, volunteer, or take classes.
