SUNY at Buffalo Alternate List Statistics

After figuring out I was in the "top third" of the SUNY at Buffalo SDM alternate list, I looked at figures from the 2006 and 2010 ADEA "Official Guide to Dental Schools."

Buffalo interviews 133 (2010), 134 (2006) in-state applicants of which 93 (2010), 86 (2006) are ultimately accepted into the school.

For out of state applicants they interview 173 (2010), 177 (2006) of which 100 (2010), 86 (2006) are accepted.

This means to me that if you are in state applicant (which I am) and are on the alternate list in the "top third" you have a pretty good shot of getting in because there are only roughly 30 in state applicants who are either rejected or not taken off the waitlist each cycle (after an interview.)

oh also an added thought, looking at the number interview/accepted assuming most are put on the alternate that are not accepted after the interview, there are at LEAST 100 people on the alternate list.

When I called the other day I was told that they already started to accept people off of the alternate list. I have not seen anyone on SDN report this yet but that is what I was told by Barbara.

I am also on the top one third of the list, however I am out of state. I wonder if they are telling people this so we stop calling and bothering them lol because I have not heard anyone report being at any other positions on the list. I guess those people are less likely to reply on sdn.

I don't think they have rejected anyone either so it looks like there are over 200 people on the alternate list.

I hope we hear soon too. This waiting game is driving me crazy. I read on AADSAS that after May 1 if students are holding multiple offers that the schools will be contacted to inform them. So it looks like most movement on the list will be after May 1st when students are forced to drop their seats.

FWIW guys, there's about 30 ppl in our facebook SUNY UBuffalo 2014 group that are set on UB. So depending on who's still iffy, they should be taking ppl off the waitlist/alternate list. Hope that helps a lil bit.

awesome info everyone! there was someone on this forum who said that they were in the middle third of the alternate list it was back a couple of weeks ago when people realized they could ask which "third" they were in. so if you search for you might find that, but I saw that.

its exciting that they have already started pulling from the alternate list! yey hope everyone in the top third hears soon!🙂
