just got into combined 7 year dental program in SUNY Buffalo straight from high school. I am guaranteed a spot in the dental school pending a 20 on my DAT.

is a 20 a difficult score to achieve??

will a score of 20 in any undergrad pretty much be good enough for dental school admission as a regular applicant 4 years from now?

should I be taking my chances and go to undergrad somewhere else and reapply in 4 years to dental school?

Take the spot

A 20 is very achievable on the DATs, but it will not guarantee your acceptance into any school. If you enter this program, it will be easier than having to apply in 3-4 years because not only will you have to worry about DAT scores, but also your grades, letters of reference, etc. Unless you're unsure about dentistry, take the spot.

Take it of you are dead sure you want to be a dentist. Is it 20's across the boards or 20 average for your science section.

Why did you apply?

because i want to go to dental school...

this is a great opportunity! my only hesitation is that im not too thrilled about living in buffalo for 7 years (very far from home). so im contemplating just going through undergrad and applying to dental school in 3-4 years...

20 average. and 18 on PAT at least.

I got into a 7yr program but turned it down to go to a more prestigious college Sometimes I regret it (like right now before I study for my final tomorrow lol), but overall I think I made the right choice because I wanted to have a true college experience at an awesome school.

I figure if im really dental school material the rest will sort itself out. However, it would certainly be less stressful if I was guaranteed a spot in DS

dondon, most people would kill for a guaranteed spot! its a lot less pressure on you and im sure you can pull out a 20 if you want it bad enough! weather doesnt mean anything, its only 7 years, not 50. Dont be a fool! remember what comes around once doesnt always come around again, if you miss this chance and then you do not get into dental school (even for a year) you'll lose out. Remember the risk vs. reward rule, you risk way more not attending than any rewarding things like "weather." think of it in the long run!

- be safe.

Buffalo is the pits, but its dental school has a good reputation. Besides, it's close to Toronto (a fantastic city, and my hometown), plus if you cross the border, legal drinking age in Ontario is 19. But seriously, having gone through the application process, I can tell you it was the most stressful time of my life. Some other good reasons to go are: you are guaranteed state school tuition, so you won't owe $ as much when you graduate; you will only have to go through 7 years of university, whereas many of us are in our 8th, 9th, 10th year etc.. because we completed 4 years of uni before dental school, and/or had to reapply; your stress regarding getting accepted will be half that of others, since you only need worry about your DAT scores; and let's face it, there are no guarantees you'll get in when you apply in 3-4 years...

thanks for the advice guys. ill just go for it. you're right buffalo has to be the safest route.
