I got accepted to SUNY Buffalo today but had originally been planning on going to LECOM Bradenton. Now I'm torn about what to do.

Costs are very similar.

LECOM pros: PBL curriculum, insane board scores, I like the idea of being a DO

LECOM cons: overbearing professional attitude

Buffalo pros: won't spend my life explaining the DO thing, better residencies (? Unsure of this), I'm from Buffalo, pass/fail grading

Buffalo cons: essentially lecture-based curriculum, location, was accepted off the wait list so I might feel academically inferior to my classmates (28 MCAT and 3.8 GPA)

Input is appreciated!!!!!!!

Here's my input. Run away from LECOM-B and accept your MD acceptance.

Dude are you serious? I think the only reason you made this thread is because you were really looking forward to moving to sunny Florida.

MD
I am all for the DO thing (I am only applying DO). But think of it this way... Did you know what you want to be (like to the detail you know now) 4 years ago? You will likely continue to grow a lot, if not exponentially, during the 4 years of med school. You have no clue what specialty will call to you. No matter what specialty it is, even FM, you have an easier time matching into better programs as an MD. As of how the system currently is (too much speculation on the details of what is going to happen with the GME merger) MD is still the way to go. Since there is not a massive cost different, go to SUNY. You are in no way inferior to your classmates, the only one saying that is you. When you start school in a couple months the bar is reset for everyone. I personally have a very good friend who went to Touro in NY. She got in with a 25 MCAT and crappy grades, about 4 years ago. She got a 260+ on the USMLE and destroyed the COMLEX. Similarly, one of the smartest people from my school, like valedictorian smart, got into UMD and really really struggled.

You never know which one you will be until you start. Just go with the one that gives the most opportunities for the least amount of money.

Hahaha yes I was but there are things that make me weary about UB... just want to make sure I'm making the right decision for my career either way.

If you are weary about choosing a program, I say go with your gut. Although, I may be bias since I'm on the wait list for UB. 😉

I almost chose Lecom-Bradenton. It's a fantastic school. I just decided I didn't want to move that far away. I think the lecom hate isn't as directed at the Bradenton campus.
*buzzzzzz* wrong! Both LECOM campuses are equally hated by those who hate LECOMs overbearing rules. Same s***t, different toilet

But those who love LECOM, love it and there's no denying that

This thread was done on purpose. Clearly.

I knew it since the moment she said she would feel "academically inferior" attending an MD school from a waitlist over LECOM....#troll

I went to UB for undergrad.

UB MD is a GREAT program. The cost is still in the low 30s, like 32K tuition, which is amazing for medical school. Drop LECOM DO, go UB MD.

End of thread.

I also went to UB undergrad. UB med will cost me more than LECOM believe it or not. The tuitions are almost identical.

First of all I'm a female and that is just straight up ridiculous and annoying.

This really is a no-brainer. Take the MD acceptance and don't look back.

Are you going to feel inferior to me if you go to lecom? That is a silly con reason for Buffalo because there will be people at lecom with better stats than you and there will probably be people at buffalo with worse stats. Anyway I don't think it is as clear cut as just MD > DO. You should look at everything. Tuition, location, curriculum, rotation sites, board scores, etc. In the end only you can decide because only you know what is most important to you. So stop posting on this thread and make a choice on your own.

the answer to all of these threads (and there have been many of them) is MD > DO
