I recieved a letter from Suny Optometry saying they said they couldnt make a commitment to your candidacy at this time. i interviewed that week. i was wondering if this is worse than being putting on the waiting list and what does this mean? this is my top school and am kinda bummed.

Wait, are you saying that you interviewed and THEN you received that letter? If that's what happened, then I think it means they're putting your file on hold. That means that they're going to continue to interview other applicants and they may let you in later, they may put you on the waitlist later, or they may ultimately reject you. :-\ Kind of sucky position to be in. Perhaps a letter of intent would be appropriate at this time? Call SUNY and ask if this is what they meant and try to call back often to check up on it so they know you're interested. But not too often, you don't want to annoy anyone.

If it happened in the reverse order...then I don't think I understand.

Yea i interviewed and then i recieved a letter. Thats for teh advice mewcakes and i am definetely gonna take it. Thanks for taking the time to respond to a bummed optometry applicant

Do you mind telling us your GPA/OAT scores, etc.? I'm curious because I have an interview in a few weeks and now I'm kinda worried...

Hi, i had an interview there few weeks ago as well, and I also, received the same letter. i have no idea what that means. On the bright side i didnt even like the school that much.

Good Luck.

i got that same letter, but i did really poorly on my interview, so I expected it lol. but i didnt really wanna go to SUNY after visiting the school

its kind of a vague letter to receive, but it sounds like they put you on hold or on a wait-list... im assuming its a wait-list. I think that if they put you on hold they'd want some more information from you, but idk... seems really vague and unprofessional to me.
I got interviews at 4 schools but only interviewed at 2. both schools were very clear about the different "types of acceptance" you could receive. i got acceptance letters to both, but still... i knew what i could expect from both of them before i left the interview day.
I suggest you pursue other schools, sounds like suny will let you know if anything changes (most likely if enough people decline their acceptance that they begin using their reserve).

hope this helps!

there wasnt any real reason as to why i didnt want to go to SUNY, it was more of a feeling. I didnt feel as if the school fit with me.

yeah, i did think that the letter was unprofessional of SUNY. they should have at least just said clearly what they were doing with my application. I felt as if they were trying to avoid having to tell me that I was rejected and just will wait til the end when its too late anyways. this is another thing that didn't impress me about SUNY
