I know it's very early, but does anyone who will be going to SUNY need a roomie?

For those of you from the city or current students, what advice do you have for looking for apartments? I've heard so many awful things about NYC housing, and I'm so nervous already!

You've heard right. Most students in my year live in Astoria, Queens if you want to look into it.

I'm definitely looking for a roommate (or more than one!) Some of the advice I've heard is that 3+ room apartments give you better bang for your buck (I couldn't help using that old person saying) and everyone seems to be mentioning Astoria. Because the housing turnover is so fast in NYC, all I've been able to do so far is research different neighborhoods and see what the prices tend to be.

Yeah, I've been doing the same thing as far as looking at neighborhoods. I've heard a lot of good things about Sunnyside, Queens. I think I'd like to have one or two roomies, but more than that will probably get a little too cozy as far as having space for everyone's stuff and everyone getting to use the common areas.

I will definitely need roommates. Not too concerned with the location as long as it's within 20min's subway ride. So both lower Manhattan or Queens should be ok. I heard the school will let us know what places are available in July in a letter. but I guess everyone will be looking by then, the chance of landing on a good one will be small.

I'm assuming you're a female. Are you looking for female or male roommates?

What would the typical rent be in Queens, if you're sharing a bedroom with one other person?
