upstate was quick to give me the bone with a gracious HOLD after 3 weeks of being complete.
 
i got it! i know why no one is offering me an interview or rejecting me! this is purgatory! i'm officially in limbo!

Hi I interviewed at Downstate over a month ago, going on 5 weeks now, and I havent heard anything. Anyone interview the first week of November and hear anything yet? either rejection, acceptance, or waitlist, I just want to hear something already.

And another question, I remember my interviewer say I should hear within 4-6weeks, but one of my friends said he was told 6-8 weeks. I could have confused it with a different school. can anyone weigh in on 4-6 weeks or 6-8 at downstate (waiting another month is going to sucks).
 
During interview, I was told for sure that it will take about 4-6 weeks. But I did some research from mdapplicants and some did take about 8months..
so who knows?😱

Yeah, complete on 10/29, invite on 12/8 for me, was offered middle two weeks of January. Did send a shiny rec from my PI that probably arrived right before Thanksgiving.
 
Those who interviewed at UPSTATE the second week of NOV...all the decisions apparently have been made. if you didnt get a phone call, accept a waitlist or worse a rejection this week. 🙁 🙁 🙁
 
I was complete end of Oct-early Nov at the SUNY Schools. I just got an interview invite from Stonybrook on Friday, but no word yet from any of the other SUNY Schools.

Stats are
BA-Sociology-2.75
Did whole post bac thing, and got a second bachelors. Both are from SUNY Schools.
BS- Biology 3.94

MCAT 31 (10, 10, 11)

It must have been post-bac love day. I'm also skating in with terrible undergrad, good post-bac and great MCAT. Here's to showing off our maturity in front of the whippersnappers. 😉
 
when did you apply? Also, how many invites have you recieved? This was my first, and other than them, silence. Oh and 3 rejections 🙂

Happy to find someone else who is in my boat with the terrible undergrad

I interviewed at Downstate recently and also haven't heard back yet. From what other people have said, it takes about 5-6 weeks. I wonder if anyone has heard back sooner.
 
So when I log on the Buffalo status page, if I see that it says under the table that it was last updated recently does that mean a decision was made? This is preinterview, and it was updated on friday afternoon, maybe interview on Monday or rejection 🙁?
 
Anyone else deleted from Upstate? I log in and the only option I have is to complete an MD/PhD app. My application is gone! Rejected? I was put on hold a month ago.

No. It always says updated recently. If you're rejected, it will say "Decision Rendered" and if invited for interview it should say something describing that.

And I got deleted from Upstate as well, looks like i'm rejected. Oh well tough nuggies.
 
I was accepted and was deleted so I am not quite sure if that means you guys are rejected- unless this is something that has happened in previous years to people who were put on hold.

i interviewed the first week of november as well and am still waiting for downstate... i think it will come by christmas... patience is the name of the game.. some people on SDN told me 6 weeks and that's what admissions told me when i interviewed there...

Wait, deleted is on hold? No wonder...I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on.

Why would they use this as a status...lol, I can't help but think that this just results in them getting a billion more phone calls than they normally would.
 
no i don't know if deleted = hold or even rejected for that matter. i was just saying that I was deleted too although I was accepted about a month ago so I wouldn't just see that you were deleted and automatically think that meant rejection

I received an invite and also deleted. So, I just think it means that they delete the app if you are already complete.

can anyone tell me how downstate and buffalo contact for interview invites? i'd sure like to receive one :idea:
 
I got deleted from Upstate too.

They can save some postage by simply rejecting us outright instead of that hold stuff.

I got deleted too. I had an interview with them already...so i guess this is a harbinger of things to come...
 
my ego is too bruised to come up with a witty way to say this, but i'm officially rejected from downstate. maaaannnnnn.... i'm not having fun here.👎
 
Sorry to hear, what do you think went wrong, are you a NY resident?
 
i don't really know, but if i had to point to one thing i'd probably say my ECs. look at my stats/ECs on page one, maybe you can provide some insight. and yes i'm a NY resident.
 
I was deleted too and I only got a complete letter about a week ago, no idea what it means but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. How do you know if you've been placed on "hold"?
 
Just joined SDN (tonight) and asked this once elsewhere. (So I apologize if this is bad etiquette.)

I am an OOS applicant. Interviewed @ SUNY Buffalo and was wait-listed, even though I thought the interviews went really well. Any ideas how many of the classes come from the wait-list? (I thought I heard an avg. med class can be 50% from wait-list.) Despite OOS, its my #1 for numerous reasons. Second question: Anyone heard of ways to improve their chance of getting off the wait-list?
 
Buffalo interview invite was via email and snail mail, which I obviously received a few days later.

Unless they finally found out I am too much of a douchebag for their liking and this is their hint...

Sorry about the Downstate rejection, t man. On the bright side, there's still the other SUNYs...

Were you already on pre-interview hold? I'm coming up on ten weeks since the complete letter, wasn't on hold, am in-state, and am nervous that they've started sending rejection letters in the mail even to those not already on hold.

they sure did take their time rejecting me. i was complete in early october and that rejection was the first i've heard from them in months... so you may be right, but good luck either way, epi. how are your other sunys going? i still only have the HOLD at upstate.
 
I am now worried....

The only hting that I could thik of is your app lacked clinical exp. Other then that it looked solid. Im surprised you didnt get at least an interview though. Well we are lucky enough to have 4 state schools so gl on those.

Interview at Stony in Jan for me. While I love the school, I'm really crossing my fingers for a Downstate interview. I didn't apply to the upstate schools, so I guess I'll never know if they were going to hold my application.

Thanks for confirming you weren't on hold before the rejection, though I'm sorry you had to have the personal experience of it. I didn't even know they'd starting rejecting. 😱
 
Downstate seems slow as far as letting people lknow whats there status, interview/hold/rejection. Ive been waiting for 2 months and no word from them.

Its funny bc I was at the health science library wed at UB and there were some med school interviewies there all cute and dressed up with nametags on. I'm like, thats going to be me🙂

On another note, anyone hear from downstate? It's been over a month complete there and nothing.

10 weeks here. I've re-read my confirmation letter about six times now to make sure I wasn't on hold. Am definitely hoping they're just taking their sweet time.

yeah... i'm not going to pretend like i have any ideas as to what adcoms are looking for, but there is most definitely room for improvement on my app. i'm going to volunteer like crazy in the coming months. downstate hasn't heard the last of me! i'll tell you that right now!

you're still in the game at downstate, DC, so don't worry too much. try to find a good distraction cause a decision will eventually come.
 
hey guys..I thought I would share my SUNY status to vent and to maybe give some hope.

So I've been put on hold at Buffalo and Upstate and I withdrew from Stony. Upstate I pretty much expected but for some reason I was pretty hopeful with Buffalo. Once I got put on hold there I was pretty much just waiting for my Downstate rejection and then I got an interview. I know my stats are lower than a few people who say they have gotten rejected already and I am totally confused as to who they decide to interview and reject. BTW, I submitted around 9/15, got the complete snail on 10/3 and got the interview on 12/1. So for those of you complete in November, you definitely have a lot of time. Also I saw that people who were complete after me got interview invites before me, so Downstate must have some odd way of cycling through applications.

So after being deleted I got a call today from Upstate for an interview...HOWEVER the interview's for MARCH 😕

Dunno what the deal is but it seems awfully late to me......

Well you got a interview invite 👍. Not to shabby.

I am afraid that I am either rejected or waitlisted at that school, since interview and acceptance offer calls come on the same day 👎. boo hoo 🙁
 
wow i could sure use an interview right now... although not a suny, has anyone applied to rochester as well? i've been complete over a month but no word either.

Bad news...

Got a rejection from SUNY Downstate today.
Funny that I got an interview from SUNY Upstate a week ago.
No idea how this thing works but Im OOS

So sad, SUNY Downstate was one of my top choices.

This process is definitely unpredictable. I got accepted to Downstate 4 weeks after my interview and was placed on hold at Upstate two weeks after I was complete.

Downstate was definitely the last school on my mind that I would be accepted to considering that I am OOS.
