Hi! I was wondering if the SUNY schools take any out of state students. I know they take primarily state students but have any of out state students received interviews? 😕 I have received secondarys but they basically ask if you have any connections with the school.

thanks

A guy that used to work in my lab goes to a SUNY... I can't remember which one, I never met the guy.
MY PI says he was brillant (4.0 + high mcat) but had no connections to New York at all.

Downstate accepts a good number of out of state applicants,as does Upstate and Buffalo.Stony Brook rarely takes non NY residents.

The schools say that, but I think they only accept a very small number of out of state students.

I could be wrong, but I think UB only accepts like 4 or 5 out of state students and most of them are MD/PhD students.

I'm a North Carolina resident and I'm interviewing at SUNY Downstate on 10/20.

Thanks for posting. Good luck with your interview:clap:

Well thats annoying. I'm a New York resident and my application is on hold until my grades for this semester come in. Oh well, good luck with the interview.

It may have something to do with the fact that I moved to NC from Syracuse in July... and lived there for 23 years! Plus, my parents still live there.

When I interviewed at Upstate, they said that they no longer place any emphasis on state residence in terms of admission (Out of staters still pay more though). It's just that their classes have a high percentage of New York residents because a high percentage of their applicant pool comes from NY.

I spoke with a couple of the deans at Upstate last week and they told me that last years class consisted of about 85% NY residents and 15% out-of-staters.

Thanks for the posts everyone. ITs probably a slim chance but I will still send out the SUNY secondarys.🙂
