first off, I wanted to say that the reason I'm posting here vs the pre-allopathic column is that you guys will be able to give me much more accurate advice, having already attended medical school. I am currently waitlisted/accepted at the following schools: suny buffalo, suny downstate, nymc, and boston university. i am wondering how these schools are perceived when you are applying for residency. boston university is a ranked middle-tier school while the rest of the schools are not. i am wondering if its better to go to a lower/unranked school where i think i'll be happier and think i could do better, or to go to BU where the students would probably be much more competitive. does a middle-tier school's reputation carry signifigant weight in the matching process? also, any specific information pertaining to these schools would be very appreciated. ie student happiness, clinical years, basic science years, etc. thank in advance!

BU is a good school but expensive. nymc seems not to be worth the cost if you are in-state for the sunys.

Yeah, I would definitely go to the cheapest school. The reputations of the schools you mentioned are not that different. Boston University ain't Harvard.
