I'm just getting started with some nerve/anatomy stuff and was wondering if anyone could explain a good way to distinguish between nerves in the superficial body wall and those in the deep body wall. (I apologize if this is a silly question, but it's confusing me at the moment)

Thanks a lot!

Well, there is no certain difference between them as far as I know.

But I can tell you that if you know the course of a certain nerve it's easy to distinguish which nerve you are looking at. IIf you know that a certain nerve runs on the anterior abdominal wall and it's directions (which muscles it pierces ect.) , you know which the nerve is.
