So I submitted my AADSAS application on 6/7 and recently just got an email saying that everything's in order and that it should get sent out within 2 weeks. 2 schools that i applied to already have their supplemental applications available and that they should be sent in at the same time as AADSAS (or as soon as possible I guess). For example, UPenn as a supp.app out but the problem is that I still havnet had enough time to write all the essays so its getting closer to 3 weeks since I have submitted my AADSAS.
Will I still be in the first batch of applicants they see if I submit my supplemental application before the schools receive AADSAS (this is what I'm guessing since they must have everything before they can start processing it) or should I have submitted my supplemental application at the same time as AADSAS to be in the first group?
I'm just worried that maybe sending in your supplemental application way after you have submitted your AADSAS will count against.

Thanks guys and good luck!

To put it shortly, it won't look that bad, but at the same time, it wont look that good. A university will see it as procrastination more than anything, as would any logical person really...

I don't believe the first batch of apps has been sent out yet. You still have time to crank out the supplementaries and mail them before the schools receive your complete app.

It could potentially show a higher level of motivation and/or dedication to the school if you fired these things off quickly. However, you do want to put ample time and thought into them, so I wouldn't submit in haste. I'd say a little over a week is a good amount of time to spend on these things.

However, with the supplements that are currently available, I doubt schools pay it much attention unless you are quite late (which I think would mean 1-2 weeks after they receive your physical application, as they know you've had since 6/3 to work on it) . They haven't even received our applications, after all. I think you'd still be in awesome shape if you sent it to them when your actual application was arriving (meaning this Friday, potentially). I don't think they'd give it a look until they got the rest of your app, anyhow, though I could be wrong.

We SDNers sometimes have a hard time putting things into perspective. Let's be real, though. I highly doubt the committee is going to sit there, sifting through thousands of applications, and say, "AHA! His app was submitted 6/4, but look! His supplemental on 6/30! DENIED!" I mean, it's ridiculous, LOL!

Not all schools have the option of letting you work on their supplements right away, though. I am applying to the two NC schools and they have different systems. For UNC, the supplemental application is available online as soon as the application season opens; it's quite detailed, and I had mine finished within a week of e-submitting. ECU, on the other hand, sends applicants their supplement sometime in July. I have read, though, that they give you a limit of 10 days to send it back to them. I think that's a reasonable amount of time, and I'm sure that on their end, it keeps things from getting held up.

THANK YOU. Some people waaaaay overthink this stuff. Just do a good job and submit it when you can. I guarantee your answers will matter more to them than the date you submitted it. There's nothing "magical" about which batch you are in either. In general earlier is better, but I still think people put too much importance on it.
