Do the supplemental application questions have to be answered in essay format or can they just be answered normally?

Depend on the supp app of each school. Some ask you to check boxes and some ask you the write poems.

Depends on the school, but generally "less is more". Don't write a 5 paragraph essay if something only needs a few sentences to answer. Ad coms have a lot of applications to read.

Also, most of the supplementals I remember also said not to restate anything that was already on my AADSAS app.

Spend time on these supplementals if there are actual questions on them. Some schools really value them.
