Supplemental Eye-Exam?

Hi-

A few schools have requested a supplemental eye exam (w/ stereo- depth perception)-

I'm just wondering- why exactly do they require this...and what exactly are they looking for?

Also, if schools are not considering me for an interview- this exam would be essentially money down the drain-- only problem is, some programs dont consider your app "complete" until you submit it...

How much should this cost (average)?

well, there is no ophtho dept. at my uni.

i still want to know how they use the exam in the admissions process. anyone?

the idea is that in order to effectively do microsurgery on a scope, you should be able to have good depth perception via stereopsis

They just want to be sure that you have good stereopsis, so you can be ready for intraocular surgery during residency

Ok, thanks- that makes sense...

so, I have no idea how i'll fair with this stereopsis. Is it a deciding factor in the admissions process?

How about those of us who just want to do comp. ophtho?

I'm not sure any of the programs state down to how many arc seconds of stereopsis you need to have.....at least not publicly. as far as comp ophtho is concerned, cataracts are your bread and butter, and thats mircosurgery under a scope, so as far as I know, stereopsis still applies.
