I have a quick question about supplemental information for schools which you indicate to have your application sent by AADSAS. For example, below is a statement from VCU:

Special information from this dental school:
Send these materials directly to the dental schools At the Same Time you send AADSAS materials:
Application fee $70 – NON-REFUNDABLE (check payable to VCU) Canadian applicants: remit in
US dollars
Official DAT scores
2” x 2” photograph

My question is, should these materials be mailed in whenever I e-submit my application or should these be submitted once my application has been processed and sent by AADSAS?

TIA

Ya, I am wondering the same thing. What if I submit this supplemental stuff before e-submitting.

while I doubt they're going to throw it out while waiting for your app to come in, i waited until aadsas said my application was shipped before mailing that stuff, and i think that is when they are intending for you to mail it. i think its less likely it gets lost somehow if they have your application first, then get the rest.

crap...I thought it meant when you e-submit...that sucks.

Put it that way, schools will not look at you as an applicant until they receive your AADSAS anyways, so what's the point in risking and sending supp app to the schools now? I would suggest doing what notin said (I would do it that way myself).

Besides, that way you have at least 3-4 weeks to think about the supp app essays and there is lesser risk of writing a quick, "dirty" essay, which would be bad.

I thought it meant when you submit AADSAS as in e-submit your app. Notin's post makes more sense..hopefully schools will just hold onto my stuff.

Ughh I'm confused too.. Can anyone sort this out?

That file says that certain application fees are to be sent at the same time as the AADSAS. Buuuut, is that referring to the secondary fee? And maybe we should wait until everything is shipped to the schools to send in this fee?

Also... How do we know when our app is going to be sent out?

Now I am confused...Can someone say whether they hold onto our checks if they are received before our primary app is?

That's definitely what it sounds like they mean for us to do...I submitted AADSAS, then mailed secondary fees to schools that wanted them already. If they really wanted us to wait until AADSAS was mailed, it should say "Send these materials directly to the dental school when your AADSAS application is mailed"....I already sent like 5 checks out, so whatever, hopefully they decide not to throw stuff away, because if they meant they wanted it when the app is mailed, they were extremely unclear about it.

I mailed it out already so nothing I can do about it now, but honestly its money and no one throws away money haha

"At the same time that the application is sent to AADSAS, the candidate must send VCU a non-refundable application fee of $70.00 and a personal 2x2 passport type photograph to the Office of Admissions. "

This is from VCU's site. This makes it looks like they want it when you e-submit!?

I interpreted it as you CAN send in secondaries/fees at the time of your e-submit, or at any time afterword, before the deadline. I agree with the previous posts that waiting until around the time that the primary is processed would be best as it would allow you plenty of time to focus on the secondary essays.

To those who sent in secondaries the day of, I am sure it will be fine. Afterall, you did follow the directions literally as will many others.

just talked to UofMichigan's admissions office. they said wait until the app is processed by aadsas and sent. So... yeah, I would just contact the school and ask.

I'm right there with you. I dropped that check in the mail the next day! Who's gonna throw away money?
