It has been said a million times that there is an oversupply. However, just like any other health field. With the amount of old people, the need for service should be increased right? Also, 50% is women, some of them might do part time. Therefore, the supply and demand is not that bad.

Also, for some ODs that are willing to "sell their souls", there are plenty of corporate jobs. PLENTY.

I just think when it comes to the total supply, demand and future job prospect, ODs look pretty good to me.

Most of these people are already getting eye care.

I would say the outlook for Ophthalmology looks better because of the baby boom generation, not so much in optometry. OMD's see a lot more of the elderly population than we do as a whole, and a lot more frequently, 1-4 times a year per patient. One area of Optometry than might grow in a practice might be some low vision since typically these devices are for the most part out of pocket costs to the patients.

Never say never about working corporate....

dont forget just b/c we have 300 million people in the US. MOST DO NOT GET YEARLY EYE EXAMS. IVE SEEN EDUCATED 60 YEAR OLDS THAT HAVE NEVER HAD AN EYE EXAM
