So it's been posted several times: if you're interested in path, just go down to the path lab some on your surgical rotation....HA! I barely have time to eat half an apple in between doing H&Ps and spending 12 hrs a day in the OR. HA! How am I going to survive this rotation? How am I going to pass my shelf? I should give up now and return to my life long dream of living in the woods and recording my thoughts in a journal......something like 'God how I miss TV; I wonder what's on TV right now?'

Well, I had time to do it. Generally I just went on the way back from doing things like H&Ps or the OR or whatever. I took "extra time" to do my little scutwork bull**** tasks. I guess I would suggest just asking if you can, so you can learn more about the case or something. You can refer to it as trying to track down biopsy results if you like.

But definitely don't miss tv to do it.

Yeah, I hope that didn't come across as lazy because the first few days really were long hours. No time for TV even, though I hope you knew I was kidding about that part. It seems that the schedule will get better though so maybe I didn't need the cheese you gave me.

dude, just follow specimens to the frozen section room...that way you can get out of the OR and further minimize the time spent there getting berated by the surgeon or god forbid, retracting

there's tumor board...

it's all about how much you want it....there is ALWAYS time.

........it also depends on how much crap you are willing to take from your supervising residents 😉

Scrub with some surgical oncologists, and offer to go down to the lab at the end when they are transporting the specimen(s). This worked for me. I liked everything I saw in the Path lab except the lack of sunlight. But at least they have the time to get out and see the sunlight. When I was in surgery, I turned into a ghostly marshmallow.

Seriously,

I just got home, it's 11:20pm, and I'm not on call. My life sucks. I want to cry. When will this surgery nightmare end?
