QUESTION:

Some residency programs "farm" out their residents to different hospitals for different rotations (presumably to help the residents get their numbers).

1. These residents who are "farmed" out - are they treated differently at the hospitals compared to the hospital's home residents?

2. Does this kind of system offer the opportunity for such residents to make good connections with the attendings that they work with at the hospitals through which they rotate?

Thnx much.

It depends on the program. I know that the residents at Cincinnatti say they are treated like gods when they do their "away rotation."

Perhaps. Depends on the program and the individual. Some people fit right in and other programs make it hard for visitors to do so.

I don't see why not. You're only there for a short period of time so you have to make the most of it, but there's no reason why you couldn't make some connections while doing a visiting rotation (say at MSK for you).
