A Surgical Technician requires two years of surgical tech training from an accedited program in the US. Check around in your local area for technical schools, community colleges, and sometimes colleges/universities.
There are some programs, I believe, which completes in one and half years instead of two so you might look into that option as well. However, this requires you to attend these classes full-time...so if you're going to college I don't really see that much as an option. Unless you are willing to sacrifice about two years of college to do so...the choice is yours.
Now, if you want to become a surgical tech just so you can get surgical experience and by seeing you on this forum you are obviously a premedical student. Please don't waste your time as well as other's time by working as a surgical tech for two years and then going off to med school. It just doesn't make sense. Another thing, surgical technicians are in quite a demand in the US because there are not too many of them so I wouldn't advise you to take someone else's place who is considering surg tech as a possible full-time career option when the healthcare in US currently needs them. Please don't take this negatively, I do realize my tone may have been so...but I wanted to give you the reality of the situation.
