surgeons

This is what she posted in the lounge, if anyone wants to help her out:

So I am currently still in high school, I realize I have a long way to go before I become a surgeon. But, I already have my life in school planned out. I am in this medical program at my school that helps to prepare me for my future in premed, and I volunteer at a VA hospital. Unfortunately these don't get me as close and personal as I would like to the surgeons and doctors. I want to experience what it is really like. Also, it's required for my medical class to have a certain number of shadowing hours. If you know, or are a surgeon, and are interested in helping an aspiring surgeon I would greatly appreciate it.

OP's handle makes me giggle

Lol. Just noticed that.

I think it's great to get exposure as early on as possible but might be easier to wait until you're a freshman in college.

For now, why not focus on non-clinical interests that will help you get into a good college?

Edit: Oh! REQUIRED CREDIT. I'm reading over these things too quickly lately.

I don't know many surgeons that would allow high school students to shadow them during most procedures. If it's mainly for the purpose of getting shadowing credit, I would say try to find a Family doctor (possibly your own doctor) to shadow.

There's plenty of time to see all the other cool stuff during college.

some hospitals (the academic hosp where i'm shadowing) have a specific policy at least for being in the OR that high school students aren't allowed. dunno if anyone ever gets around that but at least it's what the website says. i think it may have specified you had to be an upperclassman if you were in college too. for floor shadowing i dunno.
