Hello everyone,

I have a few months in early 2017 with nothing scheduled. Going into GS, starting in June 2017. I was wondering if you guys had any recommendation regarding books, guides, websites etc that would help prep for GS intern year. Perhaps a guide that would walk through some classic scenarios encountered during intern year, classic nurse pages, what to do with a-fib/HoTN/vomiting pt etc.

Thank you

classic nurse page responses - write these down

1 - it's 2am, your patient doesn't need a change in diet right now. are they even awake?
2. benadryl 12.5mg IV q6h prn itching. no, I'm not at a computer, you can put it in as a verbal
3. they'll replace those lytes on rounds.
4. I know the JP site is leaking, just reinforce it with an ABD pad

The worst is when you are paged and the nurse starts with "I was just reading through the chart...".

11:30pm page:
"I see your patient is NPO at midnight, but his surgery is scheduled for noon, should he be NPO at 4am instead?"

of course only the night shift nurse has time to read through the chart, and it's usually some time between 1 and 3 am.

"Hey doc, I was just looking through the orders and I see we've got duplicate orders for normal saline at 75 cc/hr. Do you mind if I go ahead and discontinue one of those?"
