Hey all,

Does anyone else have to pass an oral exam for their surgery rotation?
I have no clue what questions they could ask us about our case.....If someone wants to throw out some sample questions, I'll catch on and generate some of my own.

(at least at my school, part of the exam questions stem from the surgical case you choose, others will be random, from any aspect of the rotation)

My school's surgical rotations doesn't require an oral test, but I've heard from those at other schools that the clinical scenarios at the end of each chapter of Lawrence's General Surgery text are pretty good. I used them a little bit preparing for the shelf and just studying in general, so I'd start there if I were you. Good luck! 👍

A 58 year old woman comes in complaining of dark red blood in her stool. She is guaic positive. Her Blood pressure is 90/80. What do you do next?
What would you do after that?

Our school has an oral exam, and I ditto this advice.
Know how to work up a surgical abdomen.
ABCs of Trauma
Fluid Mgmt/Lytes/Blood products

Also, I would be surprised if they don't ask you something about some old guy
having problems with change in bowel habits, and blood per rectum. I would know my colon cancers, bowel prep, and management.

Also, Breast masses and management are favorites.
