I was wondering what surg question book should one use to study for step/shelf. I have read that pre-test is crappy and that A&L has lots of errors and is too simple. Any other recommendations?

Qbook is too easy, A&L is useless, Pretest is lousy, NMS casebook is okay.

I thought A&L was the best question book. But some chapters totally suck (ENT comes to mind... skip it. seriously not worth it). I thought Pre-test sucked - too specific about all the wrong things, and factual errors.

NMS casebook isn't multiple choice style, but actually asks the right kind of questions. I think reading Case Files then NMS was the most prductive use of study time.

NMS casebook already has answers...I was looking for something where you have to answer multiple choice questions similar to the actual ones on the step...any suggestions for surgery?

I'm pretty sure that the concensus is that there is no good one. I usually like MC questions too, but the books aren't related to the shelf. If you want more opinions, you could check out the surgery shelf thread.

suggestion: try covering the answers in NMS.
