How difficult is it to get into a surgical residency program on average? About what percent of applicants to surgical residencies get accepted? (e.g. 5%, 10%, 20%, etc)
I was always under the impression that the step from premed to med student would be the biggest hurdle, but now I'm under the impression that a much greater challenge lies in getting accepted to a surgical residency. Maybe my perceptions are just innaccurate.
Are surgical residencies reserved for only the truly elite medical students or does a greater proportion of med students have a shot at getting accepted?
Any info you could give me on this is appreciated.
