its Important to recognize aoa residencies that don’t have large case loads and aren’t very busy or are relatively new. These residencies are likely to have a tougher time getting accreditation and possibly shut down at some point. I had 2 buddies in general surgery residency who’s program was shut down and had to move across the country after taking a year off...Obviously programs won’t tell you this, so be observant and notice those things. Wanted to look out for some of the do applicants
 
This is also pushing a demand for new MD programs to open up
MD programs couldnt care less about AOA programs opening or closing. There is no student supply or demand that pushes residency opening. If it was the case we would have had 20000 new derm positions open.

Yes but I have noticed new MD programs opening where smaller aoa ones close or shut down
