Hey everyone,

It seems as if my first rotation is surgery and I'm seeing alot of people saying it is really hard without doing medicine first.

I am wondering what the best books are to prep for the surgery shelf exam?

NMS casebook. It's no different than how Step 2 is going to be as they are all old NBME questions. Also remember that everyone else is in the same situation as you so a passing score is going to be lower and the same for honors. The best thing to do if you can afford it is USMLEworld throughout the year. I'd recommend NMS casebook as it is a good book and all case-based.

Hi TMP-SMX,

Thanks for your input.

Are you saying that it would be a good idea to sign up for USMLE WORLD Step2 subscription and use that during year3 for practice questions for the shelf exams?

I used USMLE World, Case Files, and the Pestana notes. That seemed to work out ok. Also, I picked up an ABSITE review book and Surgical Recall- less useful for the shelf, but great for pimp questions. The ABSITE book fits nicely in the back pocket of your scrubs. I heard good things about the NMS Casebook, but didn't use it myself.

Yes, USMLE World questions are good shelf prep.
